Our community garden has come a long way from what it was a few months ago. Thanks to our volunteers and donors, we have been able to create a garden layout, clean the space, create a walking pathway, and keep the plants and trees that were already in place.
However, If you’ve been to our garden you may have noticed that it does not look as “neat” as a conventional garden. This serves a purpose. Using permaculture and sustainable methods of gardening, it is important to make use of everything on the ground; the dry leaves around the garden are useful for mixing, storing fertilizer and repairing our soil. Soil at the garden is mostly sandy, due to the proximity to the beach, therefore we use this organic material to add nutrients and retain moisture for our plants.
